The Church Body ask that the sum at present paid should be doubled and that in future the Government should pay $1,200 per annum. Under the circumstances I concur in the view that some increase should be made, but in view of the fact that an increase in the sum paid by Government to one religious body will possibly entail an increase in the sums paid to the other religious bodies, I regard $1,200 as excessive and should be prepared to recommend that the sum hitherto paid should be increased to $800.
